Adoration

We seek the glory of God in everything we do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” It is the mandatory condition of all supposed obedience. This one truth shapes all of our methodology. There are many methods which accomplish biblical purposes and work effectively, but the process itself does not glorify God. If the process does not glorify God, then the result is not pleasing to Him as well.

We do all with love of God as the motive, followed by the motive of love for others. The foundation for all obedience, the exercise of the gifts, even great acts of faith, must be love. The heart of love for God and for others is essential. Jesus said that upon the love of God and a love for others hangs all the law and the prophets. We worship Him because we love Him. We serve Him because we love Him.

We worship Him always in a spirit of reverence. Peter said that we are to “pass the time of our sojourning here in fear.” The Christian life ought to be a life characterized by a reverence for the Almighty, all-holy God. He is the great and righteous One, and there is joy in fearing Him.

We worship God together, as a body. No discussion of worship is complete without the acknowledgment that God has called us to bring Him glory in the assembly. God expects His children to gather together with one another, worship with one another, and glorify Him together. Our worship service is not a warm-up for the preaching (the preaching is part of the worship). It is an act of obedience and love by a congregation full of gratitude for all He has done for us.
