From its first meeting in 1987 with 12 people in a living room, to a congregation of 400 today, Northwest Valley Baptist Church continues to grow and reach people with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a church that is committed to preaching, teaching, and learning God’s truth in a world that denies truth exists. The Bible (and the doctrine that springs from it) is our focus in everything we do.
Age-graded Sunday School from nursery to adults focuses upon Bible content and truths. Kids4Truth for children up through 6th grade teaches the Word of God in a topical format. Various teen ministries focus on teaching young people to own and proclaim the faith taught in God's Word and by their parents. A vibrant college and career ministry encourages young adults to maintain a relationship with Jesus Christ and proclaim His grace during one of the most trying times of life. Marriage and family ministries apply without apology the truth of God’s Word in the home. Regular leadership training equips everyone to minister to others. Iglesia Bautista Vida en Christ, our first Spanish-speaking church plant in Phoenix, does all this for the Spanish-speaking mission field at our doorstep.
We believe that through the Word we will see Christ, learn to love Him, and follow Him unconditionally. We are an independent Baptist congregation. We believe in salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, and apart from any religious ritual or rite (in contrast to the sacraments of the Catholic Church, the works salvation of Mormonism, or the confusion about baptism and salvation associated with the teachings of Lutheranism or the Church of Christ). We are congregational in church government (in contrast to the elder rule of Presbyterianism, or the hierarchical structure of the Episcopalians or Methodists). We are separatist congregation, choosing not to participate in cooperative programs associated with liberal theology (such as the National Council or World Council of Churches). We are a congregation that believes in the inspiration and inerrancy of scripture and choose to not be part of any group where inerrancy is in dispute (such as the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Conference and other groups). We love and use the King James Version of scripture but we are not ‘KJV only” as many would define it. While we seek to be kind and loving to all people, whether or not we agree, we also seek to be as clear as possible in communicating who we are and what distinguishes us from others.
As a result of the power of the Word of God in the lives of the people of Northwest Valley Baptist Church, God is using this congregation to plant more churches. Northwest Valley Baptist Church has “mothered” five new churches and is looking forward to doing more. An extensive missions program not only provides substantial financial, prayer, and strategic support for world-wide missions, but has been instrumental in raising up adults and young people who have committed themselves to serve the Lord all over the world.
May God take us and use us in whatever way He sees fit for His glory.
